About the workshop

As the Internet continues to evolve so do all the challenges related to it. Each region has its own unique challenges, but generally speaking – global challenges can be divided into:

  • Connectivity/infrastructure;
  • Cybersecurity;
  • Data protection and privacy;
  • Strong national technical skills.

Given these global challenges, the Turks and Caicos Islands Telecommunications Commission  telecoms regulator in the Turks & Caicos Islands is committed to addressing these challenges in a local structural way.

The Internet Society (ISOC) in conjunction with the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) has graciously accepted to co-organize an Internet Governance Workshop with the TCI Telecoms authority.

The main objective of this workshop is to foster discussions in such a way, that sound decisions can be taken to contribute to social and economic development for the people of the Turks & Caicos Islands.

ISOC speakers: Jane Coffin, Raquel Gatto and Shernon Osepa.

From ICANN, Albert Daniels, and from ARIN, Mark Kosters. Carlton Samuels, IC4D consultant will also be participating sharing his views on OTTs and Net Neutrality from a Caribbean perspective.

The topics that will be discussed are:

  • Global Internet Governance Developments;
  • The Domain Name System (DNS) and its security;
  • Cybersecurity;
  • Privacy and Identity;
  • IPv6 Deployment;
  • ccTLD and TLD management;
  • RPKI;
  • The IANA transition;
  • Net neutrality;
