Fred Baker

Fred BakerFred Baker is a consultant, working in public policy and the Internet of Things. As a member of the ISC’s board, and an RSSAC member, he supports F Root operations and policy support. He spent 22 years with Cisco Systems, retiring as a Fellow.

He chairs the IETF’s IPv6 Operations Working Group, and has written or edited about 60 RFCs; 1996-2001, he chaired the IETF. He has also worked closely with the Internet Society since its founding, and served as the chairman of its board for four years.

He is the author of the Internet Society’s June 2017 IPv6 paper.

Claudio H Chacón, La principal herramienta de Investigación en el Ecuador

Claudio H Chacón A. is an expert of LAN Networks, security and open source applications at the University of Cuenca. Since 2009 joined Red CEDIA Ecuatorian NREN (National Research and Education Network). In 2011 did the implementation of IPv6 in all network campus and services, after that, he helped deploy IPv6 to new Universities. In 2015 he joined red CEDIA as full time specialist engineer, working actually as I+D+i in IT services for the Ecuadorian NREN and its members.

As part of his work, he had been president of the redClara technical commission and also member of the GeCC (eduroam’s Global Governance Committee), as well as trainer of IPv6 for ISPs (Internet Service Providers) as part of the IPv6 LACNIC Tour 2011 and other courses along his career. In addition, he still is trainer of Cisco Certified Network Academy (for 12 years).

Claudio graduated at University of Cuenca, Ecuador, as Systems Engineering in 2009, and after receiving his Masters in Telematics, he is actually working with new technologies in red CEDIA.

Megan Kruse, Manager, Technology Outreach and Strategic Planning

Megan Kruse joined the Internet Society in June 2011, first working within the Deployment & Operationalization Team and then moving into the Office of the CITO. As Manager, Technology Outreach and Strategic Planning, she helps foster Internet growth by encouraging the deployment of key Internet technologies including IPv6, DNSSEC, and Routing Security. She plans and executes educational outreach projects for industry leaders and technology decision makers worldwide including publications, meetings and conferences, and social media activities.

Before joining the Internet Society, Megan managed public relations and outreach projects at the American Registry for Internet Numbers (ARIN). In addition to promoting the company’s key messages and positioning its top executives as industry experts, she developed ARIN’s social media and communications efforts surrounding the depletion of IPv4 address space and the need to adopt IPv6.

Kevin Meynell, Content and Resource Manager, Internet Society

Kevin Meynell 2014Kevin Meynell is the Content and Resource Manager at the Internet Society. His main responsibility is for the Deploy360 program which encourages deployment of key Internet technologies including IPv6, DNSSEC Routing Security and TLS. This involves identifying resources and producing content that support the goals of the program, along with social media and outreach activities to promote and raise awareness of developments in these areas.

Kevin graduated from Middlesex University with a degree in Geography, and discovered the Internet whilst working at the JET Nuclear Fusion Project in the early-90s. This led to a move to UKERNA (now JISC) in 1995 where he worked on the SuperJANET and National Dial-Up Service initiatives, before joining TERENA (now the GÉANT Association) in 1997. Aside from an 18-month sabbatical to help establish CENTR, he spent the next 16 years working on activities including the 6NET and 6DISS IPv6 deployment projects, eduroam, the Global Lambda Interconnect Facility, the TERENA X.509 PKI Service and TF-CSIRT, as well as being responsible for NREN Development Support in Eastern and Southern Europe, Central Asia, the Middle East and occasionally the Caribbean region.

After leaving TERENA, he worked as the Manager of the Shibboleth Consortium that develops the widely Shibboleth web single sign-on software, before moving to APNIC as its Head of Training in 2014. He joined the Internet Society in October 2015.

Kevin has also been the Executive Secretary of GLIF since 2012, organising the Annual Global LambdaGrid Workshops. He was previously the Coordinator and ex-officio Steering Committee member of TF-CSIRT from 2008 to 2012, where he developed a new governance structure, CSIRT certification process and training courses, as well as establishing the joint FIRST/TF-CSIRT Technical Symposia. Whilst at CENTR he chaired the RIPE Domain Name Registration Forum, and more recently organised NREN development conferences for the European Union’s Eastern Partnership as well as the TERENA/RIPE promotional events for World IPv6 Day and World IPv6 Launch Day.

Christian O’Flaherty, Senior Development Manager for Latin America and The Caribbean Bureau

Christian O'FlahertyChristian O’ Flaherty joined the Internet Society as Senior Education Manager in July 2009, where his work focuses on promoting Internet access, growth, and sustainability in Latin American and the Caribbean.

Christian began his career in academia, lecturing on operating systems, networking, and data communications at the Universidad Nacional del Sur in Argentina. In 1995, he became the Internet Operations Director at the Argentine National Research and Education Network (RETINA), where he was responsible for network planning and operations, coordinating more than 20 universities and research institutions that were connected through RETINA to the NSFNET.

In 1997, Christian joined IMPSAT, a Latin American provider of IP, hosting and data solutions. He played a key role in IMPSAT’s evolution from satellite-based communications to a regional IP fiber network and managed Internet services and network planning in Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Peru, Ecuador, Colombia and Venezuela.

Global Crossing acquired IMPSAT Fiber Networks in 2006. With Global Crossing, Christian served as Latin American Internet Product Marketing Manager, and was responsible for developing and implementing the strategic plan for Internet products in the region.

Christian served as the Policy Chair of LACNIC from 2004 to 2008. He has been an active participant in other local, regional, and international forums including the Argentine IPv6 Task Force, the Argentine ISP association (CABASE), the Latin American IXP association (NAPLA), and the Internet Governance Forum (IGF).

Mauricio Oviedo, Jefe de Tecnologías de Información / CTO de NIC Costa Rica

Mauricio se desempeña como Jefe de Tecnologías de Información / CTO de NIC Costa Rica. Hace 13 años trabaja en el área de telemática y administración desistemas, y su especialidad es la seguridad en redes de datos.

Tiene acargo el equipo de técnico que administra el dominio superior .CR y el Punto Neutro de Intercambio de Tráfico de Costa Rica (IXP Naciona CRIXl). Además es parte del directorio de LAC-IX y participa en diferentes grupos técnicos a nivel regional e internacional.

Erika Vega, Coordinadora de Infraestructura de la Red Nacional Academica de Tecnología Avanzada (RENATA)

Erika Vega se desempeña actualmente como Coordinadora de Infraestructura de la Red Nacional Academica de Tecnología Avanzada (RENATA) y forma parte del directorio de la comunidad de operadores de redes de America Latina y el Caribe  (LACNOG).

Es Ingeniera de Telecomunicaciones con especialización en Consultoría para la Integración de las Telecomunicaciones (ITIO) en la Universidad Politécnica de Valencia. Desde el año 2013 trabaja en la Corporación RENATA implementado el protocolo  IPv6 en entidades del estado y en Instituciones de Educación Superior y apoyándolas en temas de investigación, soporte y capacitación, adicionalmente hizo parte del grupo de profesionales que planeo, diseñó y apoyó la construcción de la nueva red de fibra óptica de RENATA a nivel nacional, fue ganadora de los premios FRIDA, con el proyecto para la subvención de Internet Society, el cual tiene un enfoque de seguridad y se titula seguridad BGP en la infraestructura de RENATA.
